The James Fraser Library

A full inventory listing of The James Fraser Library (book catalogue) is now online.

Our collection of books, named for the Archives' late guiding light James Fraser, reflects the rise of gay and lesbian publishing in the 1970s, with many older works charting the evolution of earlier attitudes on sexuality.

A growing number of rare volumes, limited editions, lesbian "pulp" fiction from the 1950s and 1960s, and early "one-hand novels" produced for gay men give the James Fraser Library a distinctly "archival" value.

Like all material held in the Archives, books in the James Fraser Library are available for reference only.

We do not have a circulating collection. Reviews of some key works are available online, listed on the Related documents page. We also have many small publications -- pamphlets, chapbooks, scripts, etc. -- in a separate collection of Monographs.
