People working to keep our stories alive

Archives volunteers, past and present

Everyone working for the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives -- now, as in the past -- does so as a volunteer. Over the years we have been fortunate in attracting people with a wide variety of skills, archival and otherwise. And their commitment is beyond question: many volunteers have been with the Archives for years -- and some for decades.

The Archives Board of Directors, 2011-2012

Roles are shown for officers only -- though all Board members are active on various fronts, including fundraising, volunteer coordination, events, policy and mandate development, and ongoing operations.

Some key players in our history

  • Jearld Moldenhauer: A founding member of the collective that produced The Body Politic -- out of whose files the Archives was born.
  • Ron Dayman: Founder of the Archives, under the wing of The Body Politic, in 1973.
  • Ed Jackson: A long-time TBP collective member, Ed promoted the Archives and kept it alive in the mid-1970s.
  • James Fraser: Guiding spirit -- and maniacal worker -- from 1976 to 1983. The James Fraser Library is named in his honour.
