Ms. Gadd provided fair coverage of the controversy over Gerald Hannon's pro-pedophile views except for a couple of omissions. She writes that he "thinks it is fine for adults to have sex with consenting teen-age boys." In fact, Mr. Hannon's writings state clearly that he believes adults should be able to have sex with children of any age.
In his article Men Loving Boys Loving Men,Mr. Hannon praises elementary-school teachers who have sex with boys in their class. He also states his support for the North American Man Boy Love Association, whose motto is: "Sex before eight or it's too late." Lest we forget, these are criminal offences that cause great harm to children.
Ms. Gadd quotes students who support Mr. Hannon, suggesting the student body is in his corner. I was invited to speak to a Ryerson class on Tuesday night and most of the students in the class were shocked that a man with Mr. Hannon's views would be teaching at the journalism school.
