Miss HOLA 2000/2001
Always a colorful event, we join Grupo Latino Hola at Trax for the crowning of Miss HOLA 2000/2001, Maria del Monte.

"Dragging it Outta' You"
We hung around after the Toronto Pride Week This link will open in a new browser window Proclamation and Flag Raising (which you'll see in a future Pride Week highlights episode) to ask folks what Pride means to them. We also got some thoughts on the so-called Straight Pride This link will open in a new browser window "stride" that will be taking place next door to - and at the same time as - Toronto's real Pride Parade this year. The best comment: "If this will shut up those people who complain that there's no 'straight pride' celebration, then fine."

"Village Voice"
Speaking of Pride, we take you to Church and Wellesley in the heart of Toronto's village to hear what's on the minds on people at "ground zero" for one of the biggest celebrations in North America.

Hamilton Pride 2000
As we know (and you often remind us :-), Pride celebrations take place all over the country at this time of the year. We braved the QEW to catch one of the early birds - Hamilton Pride This link will open in a new browser window on June 10th. This year the festival expanded to four days and included their first flag raising and actual march-on-the-street parade, something Hamilton's mayor bucked for years.

Scouting for Queers
The 129th Toronto Scouting Group This link will open in a new browser window became the first gay and lesbian troop in North America last November, to both fanfare and indignation. We caught up with them at their camp-out on the University of Toronto grounds during Pride Weekend (and for a study in contrasts, also the week before the US Supreme Court affirmed the Boy Scouts of America's First Amendment right to express their "moral" rejection of homosexuality in the case of gay Eagle Scout James Dale).
