and the Toronto AIDS Memorial. Saturday, June 27th, 1998 at 10am. |

1998 AIDS Vigil Preparations
The annual AIDS Vigil held at the AIDS Memorial in Cawthra Park is a time to celebrate and remember the ones we've lost, and to stop for a moment during the commotion of Pride Week to note that the fight against AIDS isn't over. Thursday, June 25, 1998. |
AIDS Education Videos for Doctors
Greg Malone of CODCO fame (and its recurring "Queen's Counsellors" sketch about two queeny Newfoundland lawyers) wrote and performed in a series of videos intended to educate and sensitize doctors on issues in dealing with people with HIV/AIDS. Originally created as part of a one-day workshop for undergraduate medical students at the Memorial University of Newfoundland, Memorial now makes the videos available to other med schools. We show you a few clips. |
CBC's "In Thru the Out Door"
With "Ellen" canceled (and we'll look at why in our next episode), perhaps you find your television has become a little too "straight" again. CBC has a cure for those primetime blues with IN THRU THE OUT DOOR on Monday, June 22 at 9pm. Taped in Montreal earlier this year, the one-hour program is billed as "the world's first openly gay and lesbian sketch comedy show." We give you a sneak peek at one of the numbers, "Butch and Butcher" with Maggie Cassella and Lea Deleria. |
"Mega Mel" Marches with Us
When Toronto Mayor Mel Lastman announced on June 9 that he'll be marching in his city's Pride Parade this year, the phones at City Hall turned red hot with angry callers spouting hellfire and damnation. Never being known as gay-friendly (or even gay-aware) in the past, it's pretty obvious the bigots thought he was on their side. However it appears our dear Mel has learned a lot in the past few months, and though he says "I know I'm going to lose a lot among many religious groups and orthodox groups," he feels it's more important to "get across the point that these people are not gay by choice... To walk away from your kids is a completely wrong thing." If it's never crossed your mind to pay City Hall a compliment, maybe now is the time. |
B-Girlz at the Horseshoe
We close out the show with Conchita, Barbie-Q and Hard Kora, a.k.a. the B-Girlz as they get made up for their gig at the Horseshoe Tavern, where other lesser-known acts like the Rolling Stones have belted out the tunes. |
