Singing Out! - "Prayers for Bobby"
Our cameras were at the Canadian premiere performance of "Prayers for Bobby" by Toronto's 120-member lesbian and gay chorus, the Singing Out! choir. Based on Leroy Aarons' book of the same name, this musical narrative tells of Mary Griffith, a mother who prayed that her gay son Bobby would be "healed." It recounts the mother's grief over his suicide, and her transformation from fearful churchgoer to a national crusader for gay youth. The story also tells of Bobby's "coming-out" to his family when he was 16 and the conflict between his religion, family, and his understanding of himself as a gay man. |

We provide some insight into their upcoming conference at the UofT on April 11, 1998. |
